Charlene Davis Obituary

Charlene Kay Davis, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 17, 2018. Charlene was born on November 3, 1944 in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Glen Owen Davis and Margaret (Eckhoff) Davis.

Charlene was dearly loved by everyone who came to know her. Her greatest joy was supporting her friends and family, and selflessly serving others. She dedicated herself to lovingly raising her children, and no mother left this world more loved and appreciated.

Charlene grew up in Mulberry and attended college at Purdue University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in industrial economics in 1969. Charlene learned to fly at Purdue, earning her private pilot’s license in 1969. Her flight instructor, James Hennig, became her future husband. They moved to many places, including Waco, TX, San Diego, CA, and Green Bay, WI, where they raised their four children (Dawn, Troy, Ryan and Tara). It was during her 20 years in Green Bay where she became an avid Packers fan. Charlene proudly wore green and gold supporting her favorite team. In 1997, Charlene moved to Indianapolis, IN, where she lived and worked for 15 years. In 2012, she moved to South Bend, IN, to be close to her two daughters. She worked for Ascendant Orthopedic Alliance (formerly South Bend Orthopedics) serving and registering patients with a smile at the front desk (which she often decorated to make the most inviting for patients at all holidays).

Charlene is celebrated by those who survive her, including her brother Steve (Dori) Davis, Indianapolis, IN; her brother Brett (Jenni) Davis, Kokomo, IN; her children Dawn (Richard) Deahl, South Bend, IN; Troy (Julia) Hennig, Anchorage, AK; Ryan (Carrie Garczynski) Hennig, Evergreen, CO; Tara Hennig, Granger, IN; and her grandchildren Matthew Deahl and Kai Hennig.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Glen Owen Davis and Margaret (Eckhoff) Davis; her brother Denny (Sandi) Davis; and the father of her children, James Frederick Hennig.

Charlene lost her brave battle against brain cancer. She will be honored in a gathering of friends and family at Palmer Funeral Homes—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN, on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 6:00-8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites support of Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545, or American Cancer Society of North Central Indiana, 130 Red Coach Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
