Welcome to the memorial page for

Christine L Paige

July 12, 1917 ~ September 12, 2017 (age 100) 100 Years Old

IN LIFE WE HAVE PLEASURES WITH OUR LOVED ONES; WE HAVE SORROW AND JOYS, BUT WE THANK GOD FOR MEMORIES THAT DEATH CANNOT DESTROY!

Mrs. Christine Paige, 100 years (and two months) old, made her transition from labor to reward on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at West Bend Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Christine was born July 12, 1917 to the late Allen and Cora Buckhanon in Nashville TN.  She completed her formal education in Nashville and moved with her parents and family of ten children to South Bend , IN around 1925.

She received Christ as her savior at a very early age and was an avid Bible reader as evidenced by her well-worn and marked up Bible. Her years as a member at Pilgrim Baptist Church began when her family lived on ‘short Liston Street’ just west of the church. Her most memorable service was being a church nurse...a position she held with high honor!

Mrs. Paige was married to the late Milton Paige, who proceeded her in death on May 20, 2007. She never had any children but took ALL of her nieces and nephews as her very own...she did not mind setting any of them straight when it became necessary! She had a way with words that made you  understand what she meant!

The Chicago Cubs, the White Soxs  and Notre Dame were her favorite teams to watch with her husband, Milton...and they never agreed on who was the best team. She found great joy in serving her many fraternal organizations and held a number of offices in each of them. She was a loyal and dedicated member of the Democratic Party and served as a clerk for every election from the age of 18 until her health began to fail. She retired from Memorial Hospital after 28 years as a Ward Clerk. She filled her spare time as a member of: Indiana District Grand Household of Ruth #9, Household of Ruth #5577, The Knights of Pythians, The Order of the Eastern Star, The Pride of South Bend Temple #264 and the Silver Stars.

Christine leaves to cherish her memories: her niece and nephew who became her caregivers, Howard Buchanon and Gloria Stansberry, along with a host of nieces, nephews, three generations of nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, awesome friends and a loving church family. She was proceeded in death by her parents, six brothers: Robert, Sykes, George, Howard Sr., Charles and Arthur, three sisters: Marie, Wilma Jean and Sarah, and six nephews.

Death is a part of life, nevertheless, we are assured by scripture that if we live, we must die. And if we die in the Lord, we will pass on to eternity! Mrs. Christine Paige has surely lived her life and has passed on to eternity! Today  we reflect upon her life and celebrate her legacy!
