David Boggs Obituary

David V. Boggs, age 71, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. He was born on November 14, 1946 in Clarksburg, WV, to Elmore V. and Danelda M. Boggs.

David graduated high school from Roosevelt High School in Clarksburg, WV, and attended West Virginia University before becoming a salesman with the George Worthington Co. His job brought him to Cass County, Michigan, where he met and married Alma J. Swiatkowski on Oct. 3, 1970.

Along with his wife and mother, David is survived by his daughter, Diane Wilson of Niles, MI; four sons, Dan Swiatkowski of Niles; Ryan Boggs of South Bend; Darren Boggs of South Bend; and Derrick Boggs of Akron, OH. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as his brother, Keith Boggs and family of Sherrills Ford, NC. David was preceded in death by his father.

Being a father of mostly boys, David was a coach and referee for soccer teams, and was at every wrestling meet and football game. He also volunteered to be the jazz band director. He enjoyed travelling, with one of the most popular stops being back home in West Virginia, dropping a line in a trout stream.

David was very active in the Masonic Fraternity belonging to both the York and Scottish Rites. He was most proud to become Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons for the state of Michigan in 1985.

David was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1991. No matter what the disease did to his body, his spirit was always positive. When anyone would ask him how he was feeling, the answer would always be “I’m feeling pretty good.”

A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 at the Niles Masonic Temple, 227 ½ E. Main Street, Niles, MI 49120. Visitation will start at 11:00am, with services beginning at 12:00pm. Palmer Funeral Homes—Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
