Dr. John B. Toepp

Dr. John B. Toepp, 86, of South Bend, IN passed away at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his home.  He was born on January 2, 1931 in South Bend, IN to the late Dr. Frank C. and Martha S. (Scanlon) Toepp.  On June 2, 1956 at Holy Cross Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to the former Marilyn A. Mackin.

John is survived by his wife, Marilyn Toepp; three daughters, Michelle Toepp of Mexico, Maureen (Scott) Damer of Zionsville, IN and Mary (Phil) Goodhew of Union, MI; four sons, Brian (Sharon) Toepp of Indianapolis, IN, Gregory (Melinda) Toepp of Lake Mary, FL, Jeffrey (Gina) Toepp of South Bend, IN and Tim (Eileen) Toepp of Indianapolis, IN; 14 grandchildren, Nick, Eric, Nicole, Shaun, Hannah, Lauren, Alec, Austin, Alena, Chase, Garrett, Arden, Erin & Meghan and brother, Dr. Frank C. (Rosemary) Toepp of South Bend, IN.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Ann Smith.

John was a lifelong resident of South Bend.   He graduated from Central Catholic School, Rosalind Franklin University and William Scholl School of Podiatry.  He served his country honorably in the United States Navy.  John was self employed as a podiatrist, retiring in 2009 after over fifty years.  John was a member of the Friends of the Library of St. Joseph County, South Side Rotary Club, Serra Club and Christ Child Society.   He was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral where he served as an Eucharistic minister and sang in the choir. He was a 4th degree member of  Knights of Columbus #553 where he served as a Grand Knight and was  the financial secretary for the past twenty-seven years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN.  Rev. Terry Fisher will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday in  Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by members of the Knights of Columbus.
