Dr. Ralph Hartsough

December 19, 1923 ~ June 12, 2015 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Dr. Ralph I. Hartsough, 91 years old, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Timbercrest Retirement Center, North Manchester, IN.  Dr. Hartsough was born on December 19, 1923 in North Liberty, IN to the late Ivon and Edna (Rowe).  He was also preceded in death by his wife of forty four years, Betty (Samuelson) Hartsough, whom he married in LaPorte, IN on August 13, 1950; his second wife, Evelyn (Sattlemeier) Hartsough, whom he married November 26, 1996; sister, Edith Hoffer; and brother, Russell Hartsough.

Dr. Hartsough is survived by his five children and their spouses; Christine (Dean) Brewer of Bradford, OH, Michael (Beth) Hartsough of Richmond, IN, Elaine (Rick) Hoover of South Bend, IN, Robert (Michele) Hartsough of Bremen, IN, and Suzanne (Rusty) Hale of Wheatfield, IN; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Claire) Hartsough of Plymouth, IN and Royce (Ann) Hartsough of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews. 

Dr. Hartsough  graduated from North Liberty High School in 1942, attended Manchester College for two terms, and then served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946, most of  that time spent on Guadalcanal.  Upon returning home, he resumed his studies and graduated from Manchester College in 1949, and from Indiana University Medical School  in 1952.  Dr. Hartsough completed a one-year internship at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, and then began a private medical practice in July of 1953 in Remington, IN.  In 1960, he moved his medical practice to Lakeville, IN where he continued until 1971, after which, he began full-time as an emergency room physician at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.   He continued at Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1986.  

Ralph was a man with a love for life and people.  He enjoyed nothing better than to be helpful to his family and friends.  Ralph had many interests, including his annual fishing trip to Canada¸ gardening¸ farming, woodworking, and mushroom hunting.  He was a member of the Lakeville United Methodist Church for over 50 years and also a member of the V.F.W. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Lakeville United Methodist Church, 610 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN.  Rev. Brian White, pastor of the church, will officiate.  Military graveside services and burial will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.  Friends may  visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 18th, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
