Eugene Lorenc Obituary

Eugene S. Lorenc, 80 years old, passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.  Mr. Lorenc was born on June 14, 1937 in Joliet, IL to the late Stephen and Kathleen (Orasco) Srncik.  On February 2, 1957 in Chicago, IL, Eugene and Norma J. McGookin were united in marriage.  They lived in Peru, IN for 33 years while raising their family and have lived in Argos, IN since 1994. 

Along with his loving wife of 61 years, Norma, survivors include their three children, Jeffrey Lorenc of Indianapolis, IN, Janice Sparks of Etna Green, IN and Patricia (Gary) Layer of Argos; six grandchildren, Courtney Sparks, Tony Patterson, Kelli Sparks, Tara Patterson, Nick Lorenc, and Jami Patterson; and three great grandchildren, Lana Martin, Zeke Martin and Taylor Zimmerman.  Eugene is also survived by his brother, Jerry Lorenc of New Jersey; two sisters, Genevieve “Ginger” Tritschler of Chandler, AZ and Barbara Quinn of Ft. Wayne; several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.  Along with his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his younger brother, James Lorenc.

Mr. Lorenc proudly served his country with the United States Air Force.  He served for over 14 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He retired after 25 years with Wilson Meat Packaging in Logansport, IN. 

Private services will be held, along with a private interment at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.  Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Eugene S. Lorenc may be donated to Ronald McDonald House, c/o Memorial Hospital, 610 N. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN  46601 or to Wounded Warrior Project, 230 W.
