George Maher Sr. Obituary
George E. Maher, Sr., 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 9, 2018. George was born on November 27, 1947 in South Bend to the late George E. and Marian (Hicks) Maher. George was a long-time employee of AM General and proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Harmony Kings Gospel Group and a proud father of five. On September 27, 1969, George married Marilyn (Pittman) Maher.
George is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn, as well as daughters Tamia (Torrey) Fennessee of South Bend, Michelle Harris of Grand Rapids and Valerie Delaney of Elkhart; sons George E. Maher of South Bend and Steve (Samantha) Henry of South Bend; grandchildren Ásha Pfeifer (De’Andre), Laron McGhee (Kelsey), Tylon Fennessee (Alyssa), Tiera Fennessee, Torrey Fennessee Jr., Steven Henry Jr. (Lea), Jarell Henry, Apryll Henry, Vanessa Wiley, Brian Wiley, Jeron Maher, Montese Maher, ZaNee Smith, RaKeeSha Lane, RaShaun Lane, Steven Bethel, Heaven Woods, Brianna Harris, Ashley Harris, Brandy Harris, Cierra Harris, Taylor Harris, Jonathan Golden and a special daughter, Marsha Duckworth; 35 great-grandchildren; sisters Khalilah Abdullah of Dowagiac, Valerie Gamble of Indianapolis, Marilyn Archer of Dowagiac, Lillian (Jerry) Shepherd of Dowagiac and Arlene Archer of Dowagiac; brothers Walter Archer of Dowagiac and Leroi (Beverly) Archer of Las Vegas, NV; a special brother James (Shirley) Sylvester; a special nephew, Omar Abdullah, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin Archer and Richard Maher, grandson Da’Mon Bethel and godson Howard Franklin.
Services for George will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Homes - West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend.
