Geraldine R. Jonas

Geraldine R. Jonas, 94, of South Bend, IN passed away at 3:35 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Hospice House.  She was born on April 28, 1918 in Traverse City, MI to the late Frank E. and Josephine (Pluhar) Tollar.  On June 7, 1946 in Chicago, IL,  she married Paul S. Jonas.

Mrs. Jonas is survived by her daughter, Frances (Richard) Neher; granddaughter, Jackie Neher; great grandson, Ryan Neher all of South Bend, IN; brother, James E. (Bette) Tollar of Midland, MI and two nieces, Pat (Bob) Grutzmacher of Lisle, IL and Anne Hill of South Haven, MI.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Frank D. Tollar. 

Mrs. Jonas had lived in South Bend since 1946 coming from Hartford, MI.  She graduated from Harford High School in 1935 and graduated from business school. She retired in 1978 as a bookkeeper at Bob Erath Company in South Bend, IN after many years of service.   She formerly worked at Midland Engineering in South Bend.  Gerry's passion was keeping a loving home and was an excellent cook, baker and canner of the family's garden.  She had a green thumb like her husband, Paul and enjoyed making their homestead of fifty years on N. Michigan St. a showplace for all to admire.  We would like to thank Senior Helpers for eighteen months of loving care in her home, especially Stellah, Pat, Cheryl and Shirley.  We would also need to thank Memorial Hospital 7th floor nurses especially Brandi for their loving care and finally the Center for Hospice Care.  Mom and Grandma we will love and miss you forever.  You are the Best!  Please keep Papa company until we meet again.

Private services will be held at Highland Mausoleum, South Bend, IN.  The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd, South Bend, IN.
