Hattie Mae Honeycutt-Walker

May 7, 1928 – June 13, 2017

Hattie Mae Honeycutt-Walker, age 89, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana, transitioned to be with our Lord on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, surrounded by her family at Sprenger Health Care, Mishawaka, IN.  Hattie was born on May 7, 1928, in Memphis, TN, to the late James and Arlene (Birdsong) Honeycutt.  Her husband, Walter Walker, preceded her in death in 1976.

Hattie worked for Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, as a Nursing Assistant in the Nursery and as a Ward Clerk.  She retired after 25 years of service.

Hattie is survived by six daughters, Arlene (George) Honeycutt-Stewart of Kent, Washington; Sharon Walker of Lynwood, Illinois; Linda Locke of Antioch, Illinois; Sandra Lee of Renton, Washington; Corliss (Pastor Rayvon) Bufkin of Elkhart, Indiana; and Debra (James) Walker-Augurson, of Renton, Washington; two sons, Walter Honeycutt of South Bend and Sherman Walker of Des Moines, Washington; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren.  One sister Leeanna (Paul) Bozeman of Chicago, Illinois.  She leaves to cherish her memory, special cousins Levi Zeigler of Chicago, IL and Essie Birdsong of Memphis, TN., and the entire Birdsong family. Her special sons in laws; Rayvon Bufkin, James Augurson, George Stewart and Ricky A. Lee, SR.  Four special sons; Dennis “DJ” Johnson, Michael “Itchy” Taylor, Paul Simms, Michael “Micky” Lee.  Hattie was also preceded in death by two sons, Ulysses Honeycutt and Larry Walker; three grandchildren, twins Diane and Larry Walker; Makil Walker; and great-grandson, Deon Echols.

Hattie loved to bake her favorite pound cake and fished the many lakes and rivers throughout Indiana and Michigan. Over the course of many years, she had many fishing buddies; Eddie Jackson, Dorothy Barnes and Glenda Fay Gadson.  She shared her bountiful catches with her dear girlfriends Ruth Jackson and Mary Hopkins (preceded her in death).

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend, Indiana 46628. Pastor Rayvon Bufkin will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am until time of services at the church.

The family would like to thank Sprenger Health Care of Mishawaka, IN. and its staff, and a special thanks to her Nursing Assistances; Lagenta, Veronica, Que, Connie, Alex, Bo, Wendy, and the many other aides who helped care for our mother.
