Jerry Johnson

Mr. Jerry Johnson, Sr., 64, passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of Friday, January 10, 2020 after battling an extended illness. Jerry was born on December 26, 1955 in Chicago, IL to Willie T. and Mable (Norman) Johnson.

Jerry was employed as an aircraft painter, working for Nimet Industries. He retired after 15 years of faithful service. On May 20, 1983, in Chicago, Jerry was united in marriage to Lynise Smith, who survives. Together, Jerry and Lynise raised nine children. Jerry was a devoted husband and father and a beloved brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his loving wife of 36 years, Jerry is survived by his children: Albert (Samantha) Smith, Nicole Johnson, Sherry (Myron) Chism, Marion (Demetrius Clark) Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Jr., Daliela (Steven Peck) Johnson, Dawan Johnson, Shawn (Shamay) Johnson and Dalena (Adrian) Easton; 38 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Martha Johnson, Mary Johnson and Verna Mae Johnson; as well as a host of extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by seven siblings: Willie Johnson, Robert Lee Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Jack Johnson, Frances Johnson, Rosa Lee Johnson and Betty Johnson.

Services for Mr. Jerry Johnson, Sr. will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 S St Joseph St, South Bend, IN 46613. Friends may call on the family of one hour prior to services at the church. Pastor Rickardo Taylor, Sr. to officiate; Burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
