Joan M. Dillon, 85, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at her home. She was born on March 18, 1933 in Buford, PA to the late Philip R. and Katherine (Coates) Allen. On September 7, 1952 in Mishawaka, IN, she married Kenneth G. Dillon who preceded her in death on September 7, 1995.
Joan is survived by her children, David M. Dillon of Edwardsburg, MI, Christine Dillon of Mishawaka, IN, Janine D. Emerson of San Diego, CA, Paul E. (Paula) Dillon of South Bend, IN, Mark R. (Karen) Dillon of Rochester, IN, and Suzanne D. (Joseph) Vail of South Bend, IN; fifteen grandchildren, Jennifer Marr, Brian Dillon, Myles Dillon, Nathan Dillon, Michael Vail, Sean Dillon, Kaitlyn Vail, Michael Dillon, Kelly Dillon, twins Philip and Scott Dillon, Ian Vail, twins, Nicholas and Kendall Emerson and Shannon Vail; six great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Payne of Birmingham, AL and Katherine Allen of Burnett, TX and brother, John Allen of Tamasee, NC.
Joan graduated from John Adams High School, class of 1951. She retired as a real estate agent/broker for ReMax 100. Joan was a member of the South Bend Women's Council, Docent at Basilica of Notre Dame and a volunteer for the Center for Hospice Care.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.
