John H. Goodman of South Bend, who had a life-long compassion for others less fortunate and a subtle sweet wisdom deep in his soul, died June 20, 2018. He was 86. His wife of 53 years, Betty, died before him. He is survived by: his step daughter, Linda, whom he loved, nurtured and raised as his own, and her two children, Carrie and David; his brother, William; nieces Nancy and Mercedes, and; nephews Jim and Chuck.
John together with his late mother, Marjorie Goodman, founded Country Manor Interiors in 1960. After its closing in 1973, John worked for Montgomery Wards until his retirement in 1995.
John was an avid reader and his passion for reading and his life were profiled in a feature article, He Loves to Read History, Biographies, in the South Bend Tribune on January 29, 2007.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 616 Lincolnway E, Mishawaka.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church’s Christian Education Fund.
