John N. Wiegand

John N. Wiegand, 71 years old, passed away at 12:21 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  John was born on August 2, 1947 in South Bend to the late Willis N. and Helen Ruth (Lightfoot) Wiegand.  He has been a lifelong resident of Lakeville.  On March 28, 1969 in South Bend, John and Linda M. Wallace were united in marriage.

Along with his loving wife, Linda, John is survived by their three children, Joel Wiegand of Evansville, IN, Landon (Mandy) Wiegand of Elkhart and Lindahl (Eric) Chase of South Bend; three grandchildren, Kylie and Jaedon Wiegand, and Miles Chase; and two brothers, Kenneth (JoAnn) Wiegand and David (Pam) Wiegand, both of Lakeville.  

John worked at Bendix Corporation, Allied Signal and retired in 2001 from Honeywell after over 35 years of employment as a maintenance journeyman.  He was also a Union Steward for the UAW in South Bend.  After retirement, John enjoyed working at Swan Lake Golf Course and the Florida trips with Linda. He loved the game of golf.  He also enjoyed bowling.  John was an exceptional mechanic and enjoyed working on cars and snowmobiles.  He liked fast.  He was an avid softball player and coach, and a devout Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.  John also took pride in coaching many of his children’s sporting event teams while they were growing up.  He was a member of the Lakeville United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Lakeville United Methodist Church, 610 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville.  Pastor Brian White will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.  Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Palmer Funeral Home within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
