John "Jack" D. Geary, Jr.

  John D. "Jack" Geary, Jr., 83, of South Bend, IN passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at his home.  He was born on March 2, 1932 in Chicago, IL to the late John and Margaret (Loftus) Geary.  On August 25, 1956 in Chicago, IL, he married Marillyn E. (Lonien) Geary who preceded him in death on December 8, 1984.  On August 19, 1989 in South Bend, IN he married Joan Marjorie (VanDerHeyden) Glanders who preceded him in death on March 25, 2013.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Bridget.

Jack is survived by his children, Michael (Emily) Geary of St. Louis, MO and their son, Cruz and his sons, Sean and Tyler and their mom, Noelle Geary-Tiziani, Laura (Walt) Ginter  of South Bend, IN and their children, Andrew (fiancé, Sarah), Emma and Sarah, John (Cheryl) Geary  of South Bend, IN and their children, Megan and Amanda; step children, Geoff (Karen) Glanders their children, Eric, Sam and Charlie, Julie (Larry) Brown and their children, Zach and Sarah and Jeanne Glanders; sister, Jean (Paul) Kennedy of Edina, MN; brother, William (Nancy) Geary of Winnetka, IL and several nieces and nephews.

 Jack was born and raised in the South Shore area of Chicago and loved to share stories of his childhood and his great lifetime friends.   He attended Saint Joseph's College, Rensselaer, IN. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War.  He moved his family to South Bend in 1963.  He was a proud parishioner of St. Matthew Cathedral  and a regular at 7 a.m. Mass.  Jack retired in 1998 after a meaningful career in commercial construction sales.  He was an avid Notre Dame fan and sports were his passion. 

  A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami St. South Bend, IN.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.  Friends may visit with the family from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN and one hour prior to the mass at church on Thursday.
