Lawrence Hursey Obituary

Lawrence M.  Hursey, 37, Lawrence was born March 24, 1982 in Milwaukee, WI to Ernest F. Sr and Bernett (Jones) Hursey. Lawrence, from birth unto his final moments, had an honor that shined when the smiles were absent, that glowed when the goal was a short breath, and his light warmed an entire family when the lost was a brother's help.  He was the type of man that if he could help you, hug you, or stand for you - each were carried out with dignity and pride.   Lawrence Michael passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends, on the evening of Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Memorial Hospital after battling an extended illness.

Lawrence spent the first decade of his life, preceding the Hursey family move to South Bend, as one of the many vibrant, funny, and loving young faces of the Columbia Park Neighborhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Upon his arrival to South Bend Lawrence attended, Greene Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, and concluded his intermediate education at Jackson Middle School.   Whether at the skating rink or on the basketball court, Lawrence’s spirit of brotherhood and exploration helped him build lifelong bonds with many of his fellow classmates at Riley High School.  It was said, “If you made it the hard way or received a blessing Lawrence made the celebration connect beyond the moment -  to acknowledge the character of his friends.”

After graduating from Riley High School, Lawrence spent some time in college before obtaining employment as a maintenance and forklift operator for Lippert Corp.   Lawrence was a devoted father and fiancé, a beloved son, grandfather, brother, extended relative and friend.  He could teach with the pain he suffered. He could retell your humble story like God steered you and fate carried you when you weren't strong enough.    Lawrence gave you moments, that were made bigger because he loved YOUR light, and felt you should be reminded... YOU'RE BLESSED TO BE HERE and we were lucky to have you!  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence is survived by his loving financee of 12 years, Tamishia M. Elias of South Bend; children Tashaun X. Elias,18 of South Bend, Tynisha M. S. Hursey, 15 of South Bend and Iyanna D. Hursey, 12 of South Bend; grandchild Jaydance Elias; sister Glenisha L. Davis of South Bend and Erika F. Hursey  of Fort Wayne; brother Ernest F. Hursey, Jr of Indianapolis, In; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.  Lawrence was preceded in death by a brother, Roosevelt T. Hursey, Sr.
