Lenora Humphrey Obituary

Lenora Miller Humphrey was born in Phillips, Mississippi  on May 2, 1935, the only child of Herbert Long and Jean (Johnson), who both preceded her in death. She entered Heaven’s gates on April 6, 2019.

She was the most loving mother and grandmother and was committed to her family. She had an great career as a paraprofessional in the South Bend Community School Corporation, where she retired. She was also an entrepreneur and managed several small boutique-type shops. Lenora was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals and entertaining for her family and friends. One family favorite was her lemon cake. She had a winning spirit and was definitely a bingo-winning aficionado.

Lenora had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Greater St. Matthew Church of South Bend, Indiana. Over the years, through her many travels, she made sure that she belonged to a spirit-fed church and would always share her gifts and talents as usher.

Lenora was preceded in death by her son, Kirk Long, and her sister, Joanne Darden. Those left to cherish Lenora memory are her eight children: son Melvin Miller and his wife Quindola (Houston, TX), daughter Jean Pruitt and husband Terri (South Bend), Leon Miller and wife Terri (South Bend), Anthony Miller (Germany), Renee Washington ( South Bend), William Miller and wife Lawanda (South Bend), Kimberly R. Miller (Indianapolis), Ouida Roberson and husband James (Indianapolis). She is also survived by 38 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as a very special, loving cousin, Ettis Mae; and the father of her children, Charles E. Miller; as well as current husband James Humphrey.
