Margaret L. Thomas

Margaret L. Thomas, 84, transitioned this life on November 3, 2017 in her residence. She was the 5th daughter born to the late Harry and Beatrice Griffo on March 13, 1933 in Lake Village, AR. Margaret confessed Christ as a youth. She was a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Henry Giden Sr. 

Margaret retired from Hansel Neighborhood Center after twenty-five years of dedicated service. In June of 1951, she married the late Herbert Lee Thomas Sr. Eight children were born to this union. Margaret is survived by five of her eight children: Mary (Robert) Lacy Sr. of Arlington, TX, Robert Thomas Sr., William Thomas, Yul Thomas Sr. and Rosalyn Thomas, all of South Bend, IN. Margaret is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren: Regina Lacy of South Bend, IN, Robert (Brenda) Lacy Jr., James (Tara) Lacy and Janetta Lacy of Arlington, TX, Robert (Veronica) Thomas Jr. of Houston, TX, John Harris of Seattle, WA, Carlos Thomas of Elkhart, IN, Lawrence and LaShonda of GA, Geneco Glover and LaTasha (Greg) Carson of South Bend, IN, Carlton Thomas Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, Anissa Thomas, Steve Thomas Sr. and Demetrias Thomas Sr., all of South Bend, IN, Marlin Evans of South Bend, IN, Tytisia Thomas of Chicago, IL, Jasimine Thomas of Frankfort, KY, Yul Thomas Jr. of South Bend, IN, Willie Lee Jr. of OH, Yul (Kailah) Lee Sr., Juanica McKinstry, Tasheca (Sir) Brown Sr., all of Indianapolis, IN, as well as a host of great and great-great grandchildren, great and great-great nephews and nieces and a sister, Thelma Crumbley of South Bend, IN. 

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Herbert Jr. and Carlton Sr., daughter Irma Thomas and sisters Gladys Wright, Bessie Standford and Elzonia Adams. 

Margaret loved spending family time and traveling to Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home-West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services.
