Martha "Janie" Melton

Martha "Janie" Melton, 90 of South Bend, IN passed away at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Laurels of DeKalb, Butler, IN.  She is now at rest with her Savior. She was born on October 21, 1926 in South Bend, IN to the late Glen and Marian (Ellis) Marvin.  On November 12, 1948 in South Bend, IN she was united in marriage to Robert Lee Melton, Sr. who preceded in death in November 1996. 

Janie is survived by three daughters, Carol Jane (Merrill) Whitlock of Butler, IN, Sandra Kay (Roman) Duke Cisneros of LaPorte, IN and Sherry Lee (Philip) Weldy of Granger, IN; son, Robert (Wendy) Melton, Jr. of Osceola, IN; grandchildren, Newell (Natalia Tuley) Weldy, Jennifer (John) Beaird, Joshua & Todd Ritter, Krystal (Jorge) Bush, Marlene (Andy) Richards, Matthew Weldy, Sarah (Taddy) Swope, Allie Weldy, Brooklynn (Cris LeDous) Melton, Cali-Sue and Sydney Melton;  great grandchildren, Megan Jason, Ashley, Austin, Breyanna, Michael Cristiana, Gianna, Lacey, Angel, Andrew, Bryce, TJ, Bently, Ian, Gavin, Jackson;  great great grandchildren, Deshawn, Katana, and Korben;  two sisters, Phyllis Casper of Mishawaka, IN, Joyce White of Florence, AL and two brothers, William Marvin of South Bend, IN and Jerry Marvin of Mishawaka, IN.   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons, Benjamin Weldy and Robert Melton III and brother, Burl Marvin

Janie was a lifelong resident, along with her husband, they owned and operated Mid South Furniture and Waterbeds manufacturing and retail stores.   She was a lifelong member of the South Bend United Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, February 20, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, IN.  Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.  Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 19, 2017 and one hour before services on Monday at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN.
