MAURICE JAMES (Jim) MCCOY

On February 10, 2017, Jim, 83, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones.  He will be missed dearly.

The only child of Maurice F. McCoy and Jessie Millis McCoy, he was born in Orleans, Indiana on August 21, 1933

Jim graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1951 and entered a 5 year apprenticeship at Crippin Printing Corporation in Indianapolis, Indiana.  6 months after becoming a Journeyman Typesetter he was drafted into the US Army in 1956, serving 2 years as a Cartographer.  While stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, he met his future bride, Hedi Bischl and married her in 1958.

Honorably discharged from the Army while still in Germany, Jim returned to Indianapolis and Crippin for a year before taking a position in their Offset Printing department and then into sales.  Seizing an opportunity, Jim moved to Varityper Corporation selling typesetting equipment in Indianapolis.  Moving to Varityper’s home office in Newark, New Jersey, he stepped up to Market Development opening new Varityper branch offices across the country and conducted seminars across Europe in typesetting equipment advances.  As Branch Manager, he moved to Hammond, Indiana and then to South Bend in 1967.  Accepting a sales position with Bell Printing, Incorporated, Jim worked his way to becoming the company’s president and moved to Mishawaka in 1971.  Subsequently he took a position leading production at Ave Maria Press in Notre Dame, Indiana for 14 years and rounded out his career in sales at Market Strategies; retiring in 2003.

As a young man Jim enjoyed spelunking and boating in later years.  Upon getting married he developed a passion for ballroom dancing that stayed with him throughout the rest of his life.   A member of the St Bavo’s Catholic Church congregation as well as Elkhart Moose Lodge #599 for 30 years;  Jim’s greatest love was for his family.  Married for 59 years, Jim is survived by his wife Hedi; son - Jack (Kathy) McCoy; daughter – Jenny (Gregg) Hinsey; granddaughter – Amber (Chris) Weed; 3 great grandchildren; Eleanor, Bennett, Maverick, and one on the way; and a niece – Liselotte (Hartwig) Louis.  Grave site services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka on a later date.
