Melvin Maurice Yakee Baha Muhammad, age 43, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018. Melvin was born on March 2, 1975 in Chicago, IL to Japarinenio Muhammad and Dorothy Jean Tucker, both of Chicago.
Melvin attended Medill Elementary School and graduated from Grace College with an Associate of Science degree and Bachelor of Science degree. Melvin was an African American entrepreneur. He enjoyed working out, new projects, cleaning his cars and listening to music. Melvin also absolutely loved hanging out with his family.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Tyria Bailey; seven children: Tori Murphy of Memphis, TN, Shomaria Muhammad and Sheenique Muhammad of Michigan City, IN, Melvin Muhammad, Jayonna Smith, Tywon Winbush and Destiny Perry, all of South Bend, IN; sisters Tamika Jones and Tynesha Muhammad of Chicago, IL; brothers Tyreese Muhammad of Chicago, IL and JaParl’nenio Muhammad, Jr. of Granger, IN; four grandchildren: Darren Brown, Lilyana Muhammad, Shae’lynn Brown all of Michigan City, IN and Traniah Janae Murphy of Memphis, TN; two special women who took on the role of being his mother: Tanya Muhammad of Nebraska, IA and Victoria Muhammad of Chicago, IL; a special mother-in-law, Melony Wallace of South Bend, IN, as well as a host of cousin, aunts, uncles, friends and Black the dog.
Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Jean Tucker; grandfathers Mussa Muhammad and James Tucker; grandmothers Mary Tucker and Rebecca Elizabeth Neely; aunts JaPealnettia Smith and Shirley Tucker and uncles Willie Neely, Keith Dilworth, Moses Dilworth and Hassan Muhammad.
Funeral services for Melvin Muhammad will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the church. Pastor André A. McGhee will officiate.
