Miriam M. Benitez Alonso, 69, residing in Granger, IN, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2017 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. She was born on November 21, 1948 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Rafael Benitez and Miriam Alonso, both of whom preceded her in death.

On October 19, 1974 in San Juan, Miriam married German Muñíz, who survives. Miriam is also survived by daughters, Maria Muñíz of Granger and Mercedes Muñíz of San Juan; sons, German Muñíz of San Juan and Manuel Muñíz; nine grandchildren, Javi, Demi, Fabi, Patty, Alexander, German, Sofi, Mia, and Camila; sisters, Marie and Glorie; and brothers, Rafael, Roberto, and Angel.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, Miriam served as president of Educational Technical College in San Juan for fourteen years. She attended Catholic Christian Church in San Juan. Her life was filled with many community service activities; she took great joy in helping people. She was an amazing mother of four children and grandmother of nine grandchildren. She was a guardian angel to many more people whom she touched throughout her life. Some people make you laugh a little louder, smile a little larger, dream a little further, love a little extra, and live a little happier—that was Miriam.

Miriam’s family would like to thank all of the amazing staff on the 6th floor of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center as well as Michiana Hematology & Oncology, in particular Dr. R. Ansari and his associates. They became friends of Miriam’s throughout this journey, and she considered them all her guardian angels. Their care and kindness to her was unmeasurable.

Miriam will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We were all blessed to have known her and have her be part of our lives.

Funeral services for Miriam will be held at 4:00pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Rev. Paul Ybarra will officiate.
