Omie Makhiwa Maseko

Omie Makhiwa Maseko, 27 years old, of South Bend Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 5th, 2019, at home, under a week's battle with pneumonia. Omie was found unresponsive by his mother in his bedroom in the early hours of the fateful day. Omie was born August 17, 1991, at Wusakile hospital in Kitwe, Zambia, to Thiola Makhiwa Moyo (mother) of South Bend and late Austin Maseko Sr. (father) of Zambia.

He relocated from Zambia to the United States to join his mother in 2014.

He’s survived by a mother, Thiola; wife Lauren Melani Maseko; brothers John Makhiwa Maseko and Austin Maseko, Jr.; a sister, Bibian Maseko; a grandmother, Mrs. Makhiwa (ba gogo); a niece, Thiola Maseko; a sister-in-law, Nomsa Lungu Maseko; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunties and uncles in Zambia. 

Omie was God-fearing from a tender age, he was honest and dependable, if one told a lie or said something out of line he never hesitated to correct you or call you out. He was a pathfinder then youth and a baptized member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Makeni Main, Zambia. Omie enjoyed cars. He also loved watching how cars are made or remodeled. He loved motor rallies and playing pool. He was an excellent mechanic and loved working on cars. From Thiola, his mother, he learned to do his very best at any task given to him that made him be at his best even at his work place. Omie was lovable and was loved by many. He was a happy, cool young man that will be deeply missed.

Funeral services for Mr. Omie Maseko will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at Praise Fellowship SDA Church, 54301 Maple Lane, South Bend, IN 46635. Family and friends will be received from 10-11:00 am at the church.
