Raymond E. Poor, 91, of South Bend, IN passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Brookdale of Avondale, Jacksonville, FL.
Raymond was born on January 9, 1926 in Plymouth, IN to Elmer and Frances (King) Poor. He was united in marriage to Mary Virginia O’Brien on July 4, 1947 in Chicago, IL, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Stephen Poor.
He served our country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 – 1946. He moved to South Bend in 1955. Raymond worked as an engineer for Shearers Communications/WSBT for 33 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Cathedral in South Bend, American Legion Post #303 in South Bend, and the 25 Year Club from Shearers Communications.
Raymond is survived by son, Donald (Nanette) Poor of Jacksonville; sister, Jean Riddle of Plymouth; daughter-in-law, Maggie (McCann) Poor of Silver Springs, MD0; four grandchildren, Zachary, Amanda, Matthew, Megan; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Along with his wife and son, Raymond is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert Poor, Richard Poor and Russell Poor.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, October 6, 2017 in Palmer Funeral Home Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana with Reverend Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend with military honors. Visitation hours will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Friday, October 6, 2017 at the funeral home.
