Robert Joseph Pate, 66, of Osceola, IN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday evening March 2, 2013, due to complications from cancer. He was born on January 13, 1947, in Lebanon, OH, to the late Dorothy Pate Manuwal and Charles Pate. On August 26, 1967 in South Bend, he married Rita M. Hillebrand, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Rita; Bob is survived by their two children, Rachelle (Ray) Morris, and Mark (Donna) Pate, both of Granger; and six grandchildren, Derek and Drew Morris, and Kailey, Allyssa, Reganne, and Joey Pate. He also leaves behind his precious family, Larry and Dianna Hillebrand, Carl and Mackie Clark, Helen Robinson, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Riley High School in 1966 and attended CBC in Springfield, MO, where he sang in Revival Time Choir. He worked in sales for many years prior to retiring from Frito Lay in 2005.
Bob grew up attending Calvary Temple Church in South Bend. He loved gospel music and sang with many groups within the church. He took every opportunity to attend a gospel sing at the Morris Civic and any other southern gospel concert. He blessed many with his beautiful voice and is now singing his praises in Heaven.
This August, he would have celebrated 46 years of marriage to Rita, the love of his life. He was blessed with a wonderful family, whom he loved, cherished and prayed for daily. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
Funeral services for Bob will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, March 7, 2013 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with Rev. Jeff Bullard officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in the funeral home as well as one hour prior to services on Thursday in the funeral home.
