Roland G. "Ron" Whitney

Roland Glen "Ron" Whitney, residing in South Bend, IN; passed away at 1:08 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 94 years old.
He was born October 10, 1923 in Miami County, Indiana, to the late Adry Glen & Hazel Arvilla (Ogle) Whitney and has lived in this community most of his life. He was a 1941 graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School. He then went to work for IBM where he retired as a Customer Engineer following 43 years of employment. After retirement he worked for Cardinal Health for 18 years until age 91. He was a lifelong member of Apostolic Temple, South Bend.
On October 9, 1946 at Apostolic Temple, South Bend, IN; he was united in marriage to Marjorie A. Zimmerman. Together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her passing on Sept. 11, 2000. Then in May 2001, he married Iris Van Deventer who preceded him in death in Feb. 2011. On November 6, 2011 he was united in marriage to Linda Bovee who survives.
In addition to his loving wife Linda, he is survived by his daughter, Jill & Bill Stenz of South Bend; and his two sons, Greg & Donna Whitney of Kent, WA; and Ron & Shelly Whitney, Jr. of Granger, IN. Also surviving are six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his sister, Sharon Wiseman of Paris, IL. When he married Linda, he also added four step-children, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Roland’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Heartland Hospice for their assistance, support, and compassion in this last few weeks.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., Rev. Chris Rowe will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.
