Roy Eugene Babbs

Roy Eugene Babbs, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at his home. He was born on July 9, 1930 in Newport, AR, to Ernest and Ivy (Galloway) Babbs, both whom preceded him in death. Roy was raised by Estes and Josephine Babbs, and his foster parents were Roy and Bonnie Tomlinson, all of whom preceded Roy in death.

On March 13, 1954 in South Bend, Roy married Beverly Babbs, who preceded him in death on December 10, 2013. Roy is survived by daughter, Barbara Babbs of South Bend; sons, Elmer (Judy) Babbs of South Bend; Ronald (Diane) Babbs of Grovertown, IN; Joseph Beal of Mishawaka, IN; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-granchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Roy was preceded in death by his twin sister and brother, who died at birth; brothers, Ruie Babbs, Reubin Babbs, Richard Babbs, and Nolen Babbs.

Roy was employed as a tree trimmer at Goshen Tree Services, retiring in 1999. He also worked at Rockwell from 1955-65. Roy attended school in both Haskell, AR, and Tuckerman, AR.

Funeral services for Roy will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home—West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN 46628. Pastor Reed Anderstrom will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00am on Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Roy may be donated to Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46628.
