Ruth E. Ritchey

Ruth E. Ritchey, residing in Carmel, IN; formerly of South Bend, passed away at 5:44 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, IN.  She was born December 2, 1932 in Rochester, MN; daughter of the late Raymond & Gertrude (Holmes) Wight, and was a lifelong resident of South Bend, IN until moving to Carmel, IN in June 2015.

On November 12, 1955 in South Bend, Ruth and Glen A. “Tot” Ritchey were united in marriage.  They enjoyed 61 years together until his passing on April 12, 2017.  She was also preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Newhart.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cathleen Simon of Fishers, IN; and Diana McGinnis of St. Joseph, MI; and her two sons, Ray (Diane) Ritchey of Granger, IN; and Glen (Kim) Ritchey of Westfield, IN.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, Aaron (Alicia) Briggs, and Ryan Briggs of Fishers, IN; Wesley (Jessica) McGinnis of Seattle, WA; Paige McGinnis of New Carlisle, IN; Anna Ritchey & John Ritchey, both of Westfield, IN; three great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Aubrey, and Eliana, along with three brothers, Raymond Wight of Loganville, GA; Larry (Carolyn) Wight of Ladd, IL; and James (Janet) Wight of Fayetteville, GA.

Ruth graduated from Holy Cross Central School of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend.  She retired in 1994 as a Registered Nurse at Michiana Community Hospital following 40 years of faithful service and care to others.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 So. Michigan Street, South Bend.  Rev. Richard Doerr will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
