Sarah J. Smallwood, 65, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was born on May 9, 1953 in Fayetteville, West Virginia to James Bethel and Geneva Lena (Cox) Smallwood.
Sarah was a long-term resident of South Bend, moving to the area from Washington DC in 1990. After college, Sarah proudly served her country in the US Army and was self-employed, owning her own cleaning and household services business, soul food restaurant and B-Envied Lingerie clothing store.
Sarah had an interest in law and was studying to be a paralegal. She had a gentle heart and was a thoughtful, considerate and loving person who extended great kindness to all who knew her. She was a beloved mother of five, grandmother to four and a friend and loved one to many. Sarah developed a personal relationship with Yahshua and that relationship would leave an enduring mark on her throughout her life.
Left to cherish Sarah's memory is her loving companion of 16 years, William M. “Billy” Plump, Jr of South Bend; her children: Kierra Smallwood of Anderson, IN, Amechi Lynn Smallwood, Markey Lamar Smallwood, Makayla Marie Smallwood, Marquan Centrell Smallwood and a special son, Daniel Denno, all of South Bend; four grandchildren: Aubree Gaines, Aushawn Walker, A’Zaryah Smallwood and Jared Denham, Jr.; three sisters: Mary Smallwood of Kaukau, Wisconsin, Deborah Z. (Tommy Jr.) Dye of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Emma Smallwood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; brother Howard Smallwood of Indianapolis; brother-in-law Larry Jones, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Kay (Floyd) Joyner, Nancy Smallwood, Doretta A. (Harry Witt) Smallwood, Virginia K. Dalton, Geneva N. Smallwood and Sandra J. Jones; brothers Ricky, Dwayne, James B., David and Gary Smallwood and niece Lawanda Smallwood.
Services for Ms. Smallwood will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend IN 46628.
