I am sadden to hear of the passing of my mentor Dr McCabe. I meet Dr McCabe at Notre Dame while working on my master's degree in counseling shortly after completing my family medicine residency. His skills in teaching how to listening, reach and supporting the individual has helped me through a career of practice.

Catherine,
So sorry to hear of your dad's passing. November is a tough and amazing month. The cold winds of winter and the anniversaries of my dad's and my sister's deaths all blow by me in November. But November is all the month of souls and saints. I was reminded at mass this week that death is a passing, just that. . . a passing to a new and glorious life without all the pain and suffering that weighs heavily on us here. I wish you great joy for the new life your father. . . and your mom and your sister have attained.
Forever and always, Ann

Dear McCabe kids,

I was saddened to read the obituary for your dad in yesterday's paper. I'm also very sorry that I cannot attend either the wake today nor the funeral Mass tomorrow. I do want you to know, however, that you and your family are close in my thoughts and prayers these days.

Until I read Pat's obituary I also did not know of your mom's death, nor of the death of your sister Margaret. I'm very sorry for all of these losses for the four of you.

I have such fond memories of both your parents at Little Flower Parish, at their home, and later at Our Lady of Loretto Church. Such good people, and we shared some good times. I miss them.

I hope that all of you are doing well as life has moved on for you over the years. Please accept my condolences and my prayers for your dad, your mom, Margaret, and for all of you. May they rest in the loving arms of the God who gave them to us.

In sympathy, and wishing you deep peace,
Fr. Mike Connors, CSC

My sincere condolences to friends and family. Psalms 90:10 says “The span of our life is seventy years, eighty for those who are strong.” Yet that does not compare to eternal life promised at John 3:16: “For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” God gave Jesus “the keys of death” to use in releasing mankind from the grave (Rev 1:18). The resurrections performed by Jesus offered clear proof that God gave Jesus power over death. Jesus raised his dear friend Lazarus to life on earth after 4 days in the grave (John 11:40-44). Now see yourselves in a future paradise earth, once separated by death, welcoming your dear loved one back into your arms! Learn more at www.jw.org.

I led the Word and Communion service at the Jefferson on Sunday, 5 November, and wish i had known it was Pat's birthday. I have often relied on Pat and his daughters to do readings for these services over the past six years and am grateful for that small connection to your family. My sincere condolences to all the McCabe family. Mike.

We met Pat and Mary Clare in Oregon, 1959-60 and then I was a colleague at Notre Dame for many years. We attended Pat's retirement dinner and sat together at several ROND luncheons. They were a wonderful couple. Pat was a scholar teacher of the finest quality. May he rest in peace.
