Steven M. Clauson, 71, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:05 AM on February 13, 2018. Steve was born in South Bend on August 2, 1946 to the late Jack and Edith (DeWees) Clauson. On September 2, 1972 in South Bend, Steve married Constance (Sweitzer) Clauson, who survives. He remained a lifelong resident, working at White Farm Equipment South Bend. He then worked as a carpenter for the City of South Bend Parks Department for 27 1/2 years until his retirement in 2007. He also worked for the South Bend Silver Hawks/Cubs and for Erskine Golf Course. He was formerly a member of Ridgedale Presbyterian Church.
Steve was a 1966 graduate of John Adams High School where he played baseball and football. He later attended Vincennes University. Steve served honorably in the United States Navy as a 3rd Class Petty Officer during the Vietnam Conflict from 1969 - 1970. While serving with the Navy, he was a fireman in Da Nang, Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 303 South Bend, the Vietnam Veterans of America Indiana Post 1027, and was a member of the USGA.
Steve enjoyed carpentry, making tables and cornhole games for family and friends, and he loved to play golf. He was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Chicago White Sox.
Steve is survived by his wife, Connie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda and Dennis Hockney of Antioch, IL, Susie and Bill Hajec of Fenton, MI, Kathie and Tom Lindenman of South Bend, and Mary and Mike Huszar of South Bend; his aunt, Pat Clauson of South Bend; cousins Jim (Linda) Clauson of South Bend and Karen (Terry) Hunt of Vandalia, MI; eight nieces; one nephew; and many great-nieces and nephews and extended family in Ohio.
A memorial service for Steve will take place at 3 PM Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel with military honors. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 1-3 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in honor of Steven M.
