Theodore Eugene Dawes
May 21, 1933 – June 5, 2019
SOUTH BEND – Theodore (Ted) Dawes, 86, residing in Notre Dame, Indiana, and formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana.
Ted was born on May 21, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Mieczyslaw M. Daszewski and Harriette (Kransniewicz) Daszewski. He graduated with a degree in Bacteriology from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. During the beginning of his career, while working as a scientist, he was drafted to the United States Army. After completing his service, he graduated from DePaul University College of Law, Chicago, IL. Ted was a trial attorney for many years, but says his greatest legacy was serving as hiring partner for Querrey & Harrow’s Waukegan office, where he hired and mentored the attorneys that eventually formed Smith Amundsen, a prominent Chicago based firm. On June 25, 1990 at Old St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Chicago, he was united in marriage to Sharyl Hess Dawes. He then moved to Atlanta, GA to be a full-time father.
Ted was an active member of the community serving as an usher at Notre Dame football games, a reader at the Notre Dame Basilica, a volunteer at Memorial Hospital, a member of the Knights of Columbus (Santa Maria Council #553), and an usher at Morris Performing Arts Center. He enjoyed taking classes at Forever Learning of Little Flower Catholic Church. While a devout Catholic, he and his wife, Sharyl, enjoyed fellowship with the Saint Peter’s United Church of Christ, South Bend where she is a member.
He is survived by his wife, Sharyl Hess Dawes; daughter, Danielle G. Dawes of Chicago; sons, Matthew E. (Brooke) Dawes of Libertyville, IL and Michael T. Dawes of Chicago; grandchildren, Abigail and Dylan Dawes. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tricia Dawes, his brother, Richard Dawes, his former wife, Marcia Dawes (mother of Tricia and Matthew Dawes), and his former wife, Dorothy Dawes.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM (Chicago Time) on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Old St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 700 West Adams, Chicago, IL 60661 officiated by Father Jack Wall.
