Walter F. Gabel, 90, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at his home.
Walter was born on September 5, 1927 in Chicago, IL to the late Walter F. Gabel and Irene (Heath) Gabel and has lived in the South Bend area since 1995, coming from Houston, TX.
Walter attended Fenn College of Engineering - Cleveland State University, Cleveland, OH. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force and was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Walter worked as a Systems Analyst for 13 years at Solvay Advanced Polymers in Houston, retiring in 1995. Previously, he worked at Consumers Power, Jackson, MI for 22 years. While living in Jackson, MI, he was instrumental in establishing a Paramedic Program. He was a member of the American Legion Post, South Bend and attended First Presbyterian Church, South Bend.
On September 18, 1948 in Lakewood, Ohio he was united in marriage to Billy Jane (Insley) Gabel, who preceded him in death on December 24, 2006. They were married for 58 years.
Walter is survived by his daughters, Gretchen (John) Klanke of Granger, IN, Diane (Michael) Maraziti of Maumelle, AR, and Karen (David) Bradley of Jackson, MI; son, Robert (Debra) Gabel of Independence, MO; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Service of Celebration in Witness to the Resurrection and in Joyous Remembrance and Tribute for Walter F. Gabel will be held at 1:00pm, Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 114 S. Frances Street, South Bend, IN 46617. Military rites will also be shared. Memorial contributions may be given to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. Palmer Funeral Home--River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
