William A. Wieger

William A. “Bill” Wieger, 84, made his transition to the great beyond to be with his beloved wife on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation in Elkhart, IN.

He was born on March 2, 1933 in South Bend, IN, to Joseph and Magaline (Kramer) Wieger, both of whom preceded him in death. Bill was the youngest of twelve siblings, including a twin.

On July 21, 1957 in South Bend, Bill married the former Nancy Joan Smith, who preceded him in death on December 3, 2014. Bill is survived by their only son, Mark W. (Rebecca) Wieger of Granger, IN; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bill proudly served in his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed as a master machinist mechanic for South Bend Lathe for 12 years, then for Bendix for several years, and followed by 23 years at Bayer Corporation.

He also was a member of Saint Pius Church in Granger where he served in multiple ways from lunchroom to maintenance to a greeter and everything in between. The church was very important to him, and he had a lot of great friends there.

Bill was the ultimate Good Samaritan. If you look up the story, there was his picture. He would help anyone from a stranger to his best friend. You could always count on Bill to be there if you needed help.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, working on things, and making/fixing things. Towards the end of his life, he enjoyed putting together model airplanes. He had a wonderful life filled with many friends and a large family, he will be missed by all the lives he touched.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30pm on Monday, February 12, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30pm on Monday at the church prior to Mass. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
