Aidan Kelly Obituary

Aidan Robert Kelly, 21, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Born on November 19, 2004, in Troy, Ohio, Aidan lived a short but exceptionally accomplished life, deeply rooted in family and faith.

During his time at St. Anthony de Padua, Aidan was a four-time Panther Football champion, a basketball and track athlete, a recipient of the 8th-grade Leadership award, and served as both an altar server and a lector at Mass. He also showcased his talents on stage, performing as Burt, the lead male role in his middle school’s production of Mary Poppins.

At Marian High School, Aidan was a dedicated athlete, playing running back and middle linebacker for the Knights, and a disciplined weightlifter. Beyond athletics, he made it to the state science fair, worked in catering for LaSalle Grille, and participated in Startup Moxie at the Idea Center. He relished time with his classmates at breakfast before classes. Aidan was named a Senior of the Month, received the Citizenship Award his senior year, and graduated with academic honors and over 60 college credits through dual enrollment.

At Indiana University Bloomington, Aidan studied Biotechnology and was selected for the Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience (ASURE) program. His commitment to community and faith continued as he participated in Bible study, joined the Knights of Columbus, and worked at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. He spent summers industriously, working in the dorms and on a local farm in Bloomington. He became a Resident Assistant his sophomore year and embraced global perspectives by traveling to Greece for an immersion program between his sophomore and junior years.

With family, Aidan’s joy was infectious. Aidan’s loud, high-pitched laugh could be heard above any crowd. He loved games and horseplay with his siblings and cousins at Thanksgiving celebrations. Aidan was a fierce Euchre player and a fan of board games like Settlers of Catan, a game his family played hundreds of times through COVID. He also spent hours with his siblings playing Minecraft and watching video shorts. Aidan was a sure shot, bagging 3 deer, two in one sitting, while hunting with the men of his family.

Aidan was an avid reader of fantasy, science fiction, and self-help books, and he enjoyed capturing his thoughts through extensive journaling, complete with drawings and artistic doodles. He enjoyed long walks and exploring exotic foods, particularly seafood, which he picked up a taste for on Notre Dame Football bowl game trips. In the final months of his life, Aidan discovered a deep passion for helping others and aspired to pursue a career in social work.

Aidan is survived by his parents, Robert Michael and Erika Starr Kelly of Mishawaka and his four younger siblings, Keelin, Brynn, Colman, and Madigan. He is also survived by his grandparents, Mary (the late Robert Joseph) Kelly, Dianne and Greg Baker, and Mark and Lana Mullet, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2310 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend. A private family graveside service will immediately follow Mass at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame.
