Alfred "Al" Hoyer Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alfred "Al" Hoyer, a man of boundless strength and humor. Al was born to Gustav and Karoline Hoyer on November 15, 1953, in Humburg, Germany, and transitioned out of this life on February 17, 2026 at his residence with his beloved dog, Frankie, by his side. Through his journey of 72 years, he touched many lives with his wisdom, humor and an unwavering spirit of perseverance.

Al's legacy of humor, perseverance, and love will be carried forward by all of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit enthused with patience, resilience and love.

If you had the pleasure of knowing Al, you would describe him as spunky, hilarious, smart, tough as nails, resilient, kind, loving and very patient. His most famous quote was, “Take it easy”. So, while we mourn the loss of the incredible man Al was, we can also find peace in knowing that Al is now truly “taking it easy” and reunited with his loving wife, Irene.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his sister Chris (Tony) LaMantia of Chicago, IL, sister-in-law Benita Gustas of South Bend, IN, brother-in-law Bernard (Sue) Olsen of Cicero, IL, nephew Jeremy (Stephanie) Gustas of Lagrange, IN niece Christel Aguilar from St. Joseph, MI, nephew Bernard (Gina) Olsen of Franklin, TN. Nephew Tucker (Vanessa) Ramos of Midlothian, IL, niece Amanda Olsen of Palatka, FL, grandnephews Nikolai Aguilar, Quinton, Kaden and Chance Howe. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and all who mourn Al's departure.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gustav; mother, Karoline; wife, Irene; and brother-in-law, Phillip Gustas.

A memorial service celebrating Al's exceptional life will be announced to close family and friends at a later date.
