Anne Fearing Obituary

Anne Therese (Ivankovig) Fearing, 95, of South Bend, IN, passed away on April 13, 2024. Born on April 7, 1929 in South Bend, IN, Anne was the only daughter and third child of Paul and Anna (Burkus) Ivankovig.

Growing up on a farm near North Liberty, Anne learned at a young age how to cook, starting with desserts and then becoming proficient in all types of food, especially Hungarian meals as both her mother and father had immigrated, separately, to the United States from Hungary. Anne graduated from Greene Township. She spent two years in Secretary School and began working at Bendix where she met the love of her life, Robert Fearing. They married in 1955 and moved to California where Robert worked at Edwards Air Force Base. They returned to North Liberty in 1957. Anne was a devoted housewife, raising and caring for their two children, Sue and Scott. Anne and Robert with their children moved to New Orleans in 1963 when Robert began working at Boeing in the Space Program. When the Apollo flights to the moon finished, they finally returned to South Bend. Anne began working in the Theology Department of Notre Dame in September 1970 and she remained at the University till 2010.

She spent most of those years as the Administrative Assistant in the Theology Department. Her last few years she assisted students, mainly athletes, schedule help with their studies. She finally left Notre Dame and spent the next years of her life working in her garden at their house. She continued, as she had for almost her whole life, making meals and especially desserts. There was never a meal without a dessert. Robert passed away on February 24, 2024 and Anne moved to Holy Cross Village as she began having difficulty remembering things. She was only at the Village for 6 weeks when she left the world, wishing to be with her dear Robert. Anne was known for her cooking as well as tending her gardens. She was also a thorough house cleaner. She loved to read books, magazine and the paper. She was an avid follower of the Notre Dame football games, always watching from home so that she could get up and yell without anyone looking at her.

She leaves behind their two children: Sue (Chicago, IL) and Scott (Bridgewater, MA). Anne’s two brothers, Paul and Albert passed away earlier. Her nieces and nephews, Jim (who passed away) and Janice, (a former teacher for North Liberty), their children on the Ivankovig side of the family and the many nieces and nephews on the Fearing side of the family.
