April Louise Burton, 60, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 2:08 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her residence, with her devoted husband by her side.
April was born on April 5, 1965, in Champaign, Illinois. On April 15, 1984, in Homer, Illinois, she married Jerry Burton, beginning a loving partnership that spanned over four decades.
April is survived by her husband, Jerry Burton; her daughter, Madison McKenzie Burton of Oak Park, Illinois; her son, Jared Dean Michael Burton and his wife Kierra of Burlington, Washington; her two cherished grandchildren, Theodora June Burton and Spencer Eugene Burton; her father, Wayne Ruyle; her sister, Angie Rhoades; and her brothers, Monte Dalton and Seth Gritten.
She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Bruce Burton; her mother, Shirley Anne Gritten; and her stepfather, Edwin Bruce Gritten.
April found joy in the simple, heartfelt things: crafting beautiful creations, spending quality time with her family, dancing and singing whenever the mood struck, sharing her infectious sense of humor, and making delicious Christmas candies each year. Above all, she treasured her role as “Nana,” showering her grandchildren with endless love, laughter, and warmth.
Cremation has taken place, and there are no formal services planned at this time. The family invites those who knew and loved April to remember her in their own quiet ways—perhaps by sharing a dance, a laugh, or a sweet treat in her honor.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the light and joy she brought to every room she entered.
