Arnold Settles Obituary

Arnold Keith Settles, 66, departed this life Sunday, September 18, 2022, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Arnold was born in South Bend, Indiana January 25, 1956, to the union of Harry Reid and Florence (Payne) Settles. He was united in marriage to Patsy Settles in Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1999. Upon the death of his mother at an early age, Arnold moved and lived with his cousins, Nathaniel and Willie B. Jackson. He was treated as one of their own along with the rest of their children. Arnold ran into one major problem and stated he was going to quit school. The Jackson’s motto was, if you stay here, you’re going to finish high school, which he did.  That was our joke every morning.

Arnold was an advent fan of sports, which all started playing basketball and football for Washington High School. His passion for sports didn’t stop there. One thing for sure is that you couldn’t tell him anything about Notre Dame football nor the Los Angeles Lakers! Arnold also loved his Cadillac. You could see him riding up and down different streets greeting and telling people he only had a one-seater car.

Arnold was employed at ACME Cleaning Company, where he worked for many years. He also worked at Barnes and Noble Bookstore as a book stocker.

Arnold was loved by all his family and friends. He kept a smile upon his face and he was forever fibbing (to put it lightly). He was constantly joking and laughing. Arnold was a devoted father and had a very big heart. In fact, if he had it, he’d give you his last.

Arnold leaves to cherish in his memories; a daughter, Annette (Micah) Caldwell; two sons, Adrian and Eric Settles; plus a bonus son, Tiwon Carr; four brothers, Rupert Neal, O.P. (Barbara) Neal, Harry and Tyrone Reid; a special aunt, Mrs. Willie Jackson; the love of his life, Sharon Bradford, thirteen spoiled grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.

Arnold is preceded in death by sisters, Daisy Neal and Marsha Settles; brothers Michael Settles, Roy Neal and Erskine Reid; his parents, Florence Settles and Harry Reid and one aunt, Betty Lee Settles-Swanson.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
