Benito Murrieta Hernandez Obituary

Benito Murrieta Hernandez, 47, passed away at his home in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday, February 17, 2024. He was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico on April 4, 1976 to Benito Murrieta Arcos and Guadalupe Hernandez Gomez. He immigrated to the United States from Mexico in 1997 to chase the American dream.

Benito worked for 17 years at Forest River Marine where he started as a welder and was eventually promoted to weld shop supervisor. He was known by his coworkers for being kind, smart, responsible, and having an easy smile.

Benito’s dream was to start his own construction company, something that his family and loved ones could be a part of and enjoy. He had a lot of skill and imagination and was looking forward to being his own boss and creating beautiful things with his clients and friends. In December he created Murrieta’s Construction Company and he and his family and friends could not have been more proud of his accomplishment.

In his free time Benito loved spending time with family and friends. He was known as a great cumbia dancer and enjoyed years of latin dancing in and around South Bend. He formed great friendships and acquaintances through latin dances at The Landing, Palacio Tropical, Studio Rumba, and Latin Wednesdays at Ironhand Wine Bar. If he wasn’t on the dance floor he was enjoying a good whiskey and joking with his many beloved friends.

As a boy in Guadalajara Benito fell in love with Formula One racing. He was a lifetime fan of the sport and loved following the young Mexican driver Sergio “Checo” Perez, also from Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico.

Benito was a loving father to his two nephews Alvaro and Ulises, and he was known to everyone as happy, kind, and respectful. He was always willing to lend a hand for a project, a move, a cookout, or a talk.

He is survived by the love of his life, Lidia Martinez; his nephews, Alvaro and Ulises; and his brothers and sisters, Alejandro, Fermin, Patricia, and Norma.
