Bernice McBride

Ms. Bernice McBride, age 82, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Morning View Assisted Living. Bernice was born on December 9, 1935 in Jackson, TN to George and Olivia (Forrest) McBride.

Bernice moved to South Bend in 1967 and was employed for many years as an Environmental Associate at Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1995. She was the proud mother of two, grandmother to five and great-grandmother to two.  Bernice was an avid shopper and cook. She enjoyed decorating, arranging flowers and word search puzzles. Most of all, Bernice cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Bernice is survived by her two loving children, Cynthia (Andrew) Howard of South Bend and John (Mary) McBride of Mishawaka; grandchildren Alisha Howard, Bryan Howard, Kendra Jones, Kisha Edmond and BJ Jones III; great-grandchildren Jaylin Micou and Jayda Micou; sister Kathie McBride of Arlington, TX; brother Hershal T. McBride of Jackson, TN; special nieces Olivia Hudson of South Bend and Sharon Hawkins of Indianapolis; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leroy Bashley, Prentiss Bonds, Pete McBride, Nathaniel McBride and Wayne McBride as well as a sister, Gladys Levy.

Funeral services for Bernice will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend. Elder Howard will officiate. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery in South Bend.
