Betty Germano Obituary

Betty Germano, 96 years old, passed away peacefully at her home early Friday morning after a long illness. She was preceded by her husband, Rocco Germano; father and mother, Arthur and Ruth Lemler; and her sister, Jean Jewell. She is survived by sister, Shirley Muldoon; brother and sister in law,

Tony and Ann Germano; and her six children: Emily Goethals of Breman, Dr. Alan Germano (Lesa) of Boise, ID, John Germano (Barbara) of Indianapolis, Lisa Germano of Mishawaka, Richard Germano (Nancy) of Indianapolis, Maria Rhoda (Patrick) of Indianapolis, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Betty was a bright light whose positivity touched all that knew her. She was a music and special reading teacher, music consultant, and Principal in the Mishawaka School System. She played cello in the South Bend Symphony and taught Suzuki cello in the area. One of the many highlights of her life was being the first female (other than nuns) that received a master’s degree from Notre Dame.

Betty surrounded herself with art and beauty; music, nature, gardening. Spring, Summer, and Fall, one would find Betty working in her lush gardens. She spread her love for gardening by sharing her plants and seeds with so many. She was an avid reader and loved playing games with family and friends.

No one had a more positive attitude and love for life than Betty. She was a positive influence on those that knew her and she encouraged others to be their best. She will be greatly missed by all. She was sunshine.

Family and friends will celebrate Betty’s life at a later date. A special thanks to those at Center for Hospice Care for keeping her comfortable through her illness. Donations can be made to Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
