Beverly L. Bice, a cherished soul whose love for animals and zest for life left an indelible mark on those around her, passed away at 4:30 am on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, in Elkhart Place. Born on July 4, 1939, in Cloveport, KY, Beverly's journey through life was one of passion, dedication, and joy.
Beverly was the beloved daughter of the late Robert R. Askins and Margaret L. (Crow) Larrison. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Ryan, and her brother, Terry Askins. Her spirit is carried on by her niece, Nancy (Bryan) Simmons and nephews, Brent (Jeanette) and Jeffery (Kim). Beverly's friendships were deep and enduring, particularly with Barb Lemanski, Tracey Smith, Diana Graham, and Jim Tisdale, who stood by her through thick and thin. Beverly’s beloved feline companion, Bobo, stayed with her to the end.
Her love for animals was not just a passion but a calling. Beverly's career at Family Pet Health was a testament to her dedication to the well-being of all creatures great and small. She retired in 2020 after years of service that were marked by compassion and an unwavering commitment to the animals she cared for. Beverly took much pride in the fact that she rescued and adopted many dogs and cats through the years.
Beyond her professional life, Beverly was known for her vibrant personality. She loved to dance, sing, go fishing, and attend car shows. While in the Elkhart Place she enjoyed watching the birds, squirrels, deer, and turkeys outside her window.
Southern Care Hospice and Elkhart Place provided Beverly with exceptional care for the last 2 years, and the family extends heartfelt thanks to entire staff and especially Ronda for her kindness and support. Beverly's life was one of giving, and it is fitting that memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Pet Refuge 4626 S Burnett Dr, South Bend, IN 46614 or Southern Care Hospice 1626 E Day Rd, Mishawaka, IN 46545 organizations that reflect her compassionate spirit.
