Beverly L. (Perkins) Esters

Beverly Laura Perkins Esters, a devoted mother, aunt, grandmother, and great aunt, was born on March 20, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois to Wesley and Lorraine Gavin. She was baptized at Calvary Temple in Chicago, Illinois.

Beverly was educated at Hendricks Elementary School and Phillips High School.

Beverly was a devoted member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a member of the recording choir until she relocated to South Bend, Indiana.

Beverly was united in holy matrimony to Jonathan Esters, who preceded her in death. To this union, a son was born. Beverly had two other children already, one daughter and one son, Wayland, who preceded her in death.

Beverly worked at Notre Dame University until her retirement.

Beverly was truly a unique and loving woman. She loved her family and would put their needs first. She had a personality of her own and was very independent. There was simply none other like “Dobie”. She was the life of the party!

On Saturday, December 19, 2020, God called this beloved angel home while at St. Joseph Regional Medical at the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 29 days. Her parents, Wesley and Lorraine Gavin, her sister Ruth, her brothers Richard, Douglas, Wesley, Louis, Greg, Charles, Sylvester, and Marlon also preceded her in death.

Beverly leaves to cherish fond memories her two children, Lorraine Perkins and Jonathan Esters of South Bend, Indiana. She leaves four grandchildren; Alfred, Devonte, Taji, and Tyshiana. She had 7 great grandchildren. She leaves two sisters; Anna Gavin of Chicago, Illinois, Delores Spencer of Sikeston, Missouri, one brother, Ricardo Perkins of Sikeston, Missouri, three aunts; Romell, Lunette, and Brenda all of East St. Louis, Illinois, four uncles; Eddie Joe, Robert, JT, and Anthony all of East St. Louis, Illinois, a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and a close friend, Pam of South Bend, Indiana.

Funeral services for Beverly will be 2:00 pm, Monday January 4, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana 46628.  Friends may visit with the family 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm prior to the services at the funeral home.  Burial at Riverview Cemetery will follow the services.
