Billy J. O'Banion

Billy J. O'Banion, age 67, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away on July 9, 2026. He was born on August 10, 1958, in South Bend, Indiana, and lived a life marked by adventure, hard work, and devotion to the people he loved.

Billy was the son of the late Norman and Ethel O'Banion. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Norman D. O'Banion. He is survived by his wife, Diane O'Banion; his daughters, Kelly O'Banion, Kayla O'Banion, and Taylor O'Banion; his grandchildren, Robert Cook and Clinton Bell; and his great-grandchildren, Kaylee Cook and Mark Cook. He is also survived by his sisters, Patsy Bode, Loretta Smith, Penny and Joe Duda, Sandy and Roger Teska, Brenda O'Banion, Tammy and Paul Decker, and Cindy and Bruce Wighaman, as well as his sister-in-law, Colette O'Banion. He leaves behind his brothers, Norman G. and Veronica O'Banion and Arch and Wanda O'Banion, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Billy worked hard throughout his life and took pride in his trade. He was employed as HOD carrier and in masonry and brick laying, work that reflected his strong hands, steady character, and commitment to doing a job well.

He also had a deep love for the outdoors and the adventures it offered. Billy enjoyed going out West and to Canada to hunt elk, deer, and raccoon, and he looked forward to turkey shoots with enthusiasm. Some of his favorite times were spent with his hunting buddies Dan, Don, and Marty, sharing stories, laughter, and the kind of companionship that lasts a lifetime. He was a member of Union 645 and Local 81, associations that connected him to the work he valued and the people who shared his way of life.

“Billy lived his life his way”, and that spirit defined him. He was the kind of man who followed his own path, embraced the open road, and made memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who knew him best. His family and friends will remember his strong presence, his independent spirit, and the love he gave so freely.

Though he will be deeply missed, Billy’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, and a love for family and the outdoors. The legacy he leaves behind is one of strength, resilience, and a life fully lived.

Family will have a celebration of life & dinner on Saturday July 18, 2026, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm EST. at American Legion, 486 E Michigan, New Carlisle, IN. 46552
