Brenda Kay Cisney of North Liberty passed away on Monday September 19, 2022, at Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving children. Brenda Kay Walls was born on December 10, 1951, to the late Ernest Walls and Virginia Litteral Walls Holmes. She graduated from North Liberty High School in 1970. On July 18, 1970, Brenda was united in marriage to Darell M. Cisney. Together they shared 40 years of marriage before his passing on March 29, 2011.
Brenda and Darell made their home on Main Street, raising four children: Rhonda (Ben) Hesch, Denise (Charlie) Szilagyi, Dara (Scott) Richie, and Jason Cisney. She loved her children and was a great source of support for them throughout the years.
Brenda’s love for her children could only be surpassed by her love for her grandchildren; Bailey Hedstrom (Teresa Meyer), Joey Hedstrom (Kamila Kawecki), Shelby Vandall (Tyler Garab), Allison Vandall, Logan Richie, Landon Richie, Addie Holland (Tyler Patterson) and Ryker Cisney.
Holidays were a special time of gathering around the table where Brenda always prepared enough food for everyone to take home leftovers. She was a great cook and was famous for her mac-n-cheese amongst her grandchildren. Brenda also enjoyed reading, gardening, puzzles and binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy. Brenda recently retired from John Glenn School Corporation after 30 years working in food service at North Liberty Elementary School. She made many wonderful friends over the course of her career, including Michelle Helminger, who was like a bonus daughter to her.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Brenda is survived by her siblings Mike Walls, Ron (Dave Leyba) Walls, Don (Ellie) Walls and Gina (Lane) Groves; her in-laws; Jeanette Maples, Diane (Cloid) Kime, Bunnie (Jim) Rimbaugh, Jim (Sondra) Cisney, Karen Quinlivan and Tim (Lori) Cisney.
