Brenda Joyce Rayborn shined her light into the world on January 24, 1958 in
McComb, MS. Her parents, Johnny and Patsy Rayborn received her with
delight. Her final dance to join the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ took place on
January 1, 2026 in her true celebratory fashion on New Year’s Day.
Brenda Rayborn graduated from South Pike High School in Magnolia, MS in
1976. She went on to attend Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS and
graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Special Education in 1980. In 1992
she also received her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Indiana
University in Bloomington, IN. In the summer of 1980, she and several other
women who became life-long friends, were recruited from the south to teach for
South Bend Community School Corporation where she remained as a beloved educator for 43 years.
Along her journey in South Bend, she met and shared her life with her partner, Robert Shephard, who preceded in her in death.
To continue her journey, however, she has left wonderful memories to celebrate
with her son Landis Rayborn (Lauren) and her grandchildren Malcolm
Rayborn, Laiya Rayborn, Leila Whitted, and Maverick Rayborn. All who filled
her with pride and joy throughout her life. Joining Landis (Lauren) and their
children in this continued journey are her siblings Johnny Rayborn (Irma), Billy
Rayborn (Maria), James Rayborn (Eliece), Bobby Rayborn (Stephanie), Eddie
Rayborn (Phyllis), Beverly Jackson, Michael Rayborn (Latrice), and Carolyn
Milton. Joining her siblings are cousins Willie Rayborn (Earnestine) and niece
Rochelle Robinson. Her sister Cynthia Standley, brother in law Harrison
