Brian Michael Gervais MM1, 61, of Chula Vista, California passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at La Jolla VA Hospital in San Diego, CA. He was born April 15, 1960 to Raymond and Jane (Charnoski) Gervais.
Brian graduated from Mishawaka High School as the class of 1978. He lettered in both Cross Country and Drum Major in Band.
He was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1978 until 1984. He worked on nuclear-powered surface ship, USS Proteus, and the nuclear-powered submarine, USS Henry Clay. He received the Battle Efficiency “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and two Bronze Stars. After the Navy, Brian moved to the Chula Vista area. He worked as an Architectural Engineer in construction in the San Diego area. He eventually went back to college and received his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering in 2010. Brian also enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing, and scuba diving. Above all, Brian was very devoted to growing in his Faith.
Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Jane (Charnoski) Gervais. He is survived by his father, Raymond Gervais; siblings, Larry Gervais of Cumming, GA, Kathy (Roberto) Escobedo, Scott Gervais, and Gary Gervais, all of Mishawaka; nieces and nephews, Alek (Ashley) Escobedo, Kaley (Austin) Coy, Erik (Hannah) Escobedo, Chase (Brittany) Gervais, and Maddie Gervais, all of Mishawaka; great-nephew, Colt of Mishawaka; Uncle Jack Cato; Aunt Lorraine (Robert) Gill; and Aunt Janet Gervais. Brian is also survived by his godmother, Aunt Eleanor Tengelitsch; and a host of cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00am-11:30am Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Palmer Funeral Homes-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N Main St, Mishawaka IN 46545. Military honors will take place at 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
