Bruce Baros Obituary

Bruce Michael Baros, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024, in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 73. Born on May 5, 1950, in Pittsburg, California, to the late Julius Baros, and Thelma (McIlvenna) Baros, Bruce was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, generosity, and kindness.

Bruce was a long-time resident of northwest Indiana. Coming from a lineage of patriotism, he spent his formative years traveling the world with his parents. His father proudly served in the United States Army for 27 years.  His early education from Lew Wallace High School laid the foundation for a life of dedication and service, which was exemplified by his remarkable 40-year career at U.S. Steel. There, he served with distinction as a Firefighter/EMT, a role in which he not only protected his colleagues but also displayed his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of others.

Bruce, a devoted family man loved and raised his children: Brian (Darcy) Baros of Valparaiso, Jeff (Hope) Baros of Knox and Christopher (Jen) Baros of Michigan City.

On October 15, 1999, Bruce married the love of his life, Pamela (Coleman) Baros, and together they built a life filled with love, joy and companionship. Bruce continued to portray a stalwart example as a father when he raised: Matthew (Amber) Rose of Yuma, AZ, Joshua Rose of South Bend, and Katherine (Andrew) Nolte of South Bend. He fiercely loved: Jeremy Zeha of Niles, Jeffrey (Heather) Zeha of Fishers, Indiana, Andrew Zeha of Mt. Pleasant, IL. Bruce's legacy continues through his numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bruce's sister, Judy Setlak (Ray), along with the rest of his family, will fondly remember him as a beacon of love and strength within their lives. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness to everyone he knew.

Throughout his life, Bruce pursued a variety of interests with passion and enthusiasm. He enjoyed playing golf, finding solace and challenge on the greens. Fishing was another of his favorite pastimes, providing him with countless peaceful moments by the water with his life-long friend Rich Staehlin. Bruce's love for travel took him on many adventures, creating memories that he treasured deeply. In the company of friends and family, he enjoyed the simple pleasure of drinking a cold Miller Lite, sharing stories of the 1985 Chicago Bears, and making those around him laugh.

Bruce's character was the epitome of what it means to be loving, generous, and kind. His actions spoke to his character, and his heart was always open to those in need. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life, to listen, and to offer a helping hand, made him a beloved figure in his community.

As we bid farewell to Bruce, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by love, service, and the countless lives he touched. His spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his memory will be treasured in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
