Byron (Barney) Duane Reinhold SR, age 93, of Niles, Michigan, passed away on February 2, 2026. He was born on March 29, 1932, to the late Valentine Reinhold, Sr and Mabel (Bitterling) Reinhold and was raised on a farm, where he learned the values of hard work and dedication that stayed with him throughout his life.
On September 17, 1949, Byron married the love of his life, Nancy (Scott) Reinhold. They shared 73 years of marriage and a lifetime devoted to faith and family before her passing in 2023. Family was everything to Byron, and he took great pride in the life they built together.
Byron worked as a carpenter for 73 years, a trade he deeply loved and took great pride in. He also served for 20 years as Coordinator for the Joint Apprenticeship Training Program, teaching and mentoring countless apprentices throughout his career. In recognition of his dedication and service, he was honored with Indiana’s greatest honor, the Sagamore of the Wabash Award. This prestigious honor recognizes, at the governor’s discretion, those who have made significant contributions to the state’s community and heritage. Outside of work, Byron enjoyed fly fishing and spending time with those he loved most.
Byron is survived by his daughter Avonda (Dan) Burt of La Porte, Indiana; his sons Byron Jr (Marietta) Reinhold of Bloomington, Indiana, Val Douglas Reinhold of Walkerton, Indiana, Scott (Debbie) Reinhold of Mill Creek, Indiana, Jeff (Judy) Reinhold of Niles, Michigan, and Paul (Michelle) Reinhold of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; his sister Judy (Howard) Carlisle of Argos, Indiana; and his brother David Reinhold Kewanna, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Nancy; his daughter Cheryl Reinhold; his sisters Katherine Corbett and Elsie Tuley; and his brothers Lowell Reinhold, Valentine Reinhold Jr, and Hubert Reinhold.
