Caroline M. Bognar, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 4:05 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2021 at Healthwin Specialized Care. She was 98 years old.
She was born February 28, 1923 in South Bend, a daughter of the late Casimir & Martha (Urbanski) Holewinski.
ON April 14, 1945 at the Chapel of the Pines, Seattle, WA; she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Ernest P. Bognar. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage until his passing on March 10, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Blasé Jozwiak, Ervin Holewinski, and Stanley Holewinski.
Mrs. Bognar began her working career at Smolar Brothers in South Bend, and then worked at Goldblatt’s for fifteen years and spent seven years at Edison School Cafeteria.
She has been a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church since 1946, and served in the Sacristy until she was 85 years old. She was also a member of the Harvest House at the church as well. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Knight of Columbus Wives, and a charter member of the former German Club.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann (Edward) Peltier of West Hartford, CT; and Michelle Molina of South Bend. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Dr. Kevin (Jennifer) Peltier of Haymarket, CT; Amy (Scott) McGee of Providence, RI; Paul Peltier and Patrick Peltier, both of West Hartford, CT; Mathew (Stacy) Molina of Reno, NV; Cassandra; Christopher Molina, both of South Bend; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday, November 27, 2021 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Rev. Daryl Rybicki will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of mass at the church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
